Frequently Asked Questions

Which image sensors is the JSD2916-J1 matched to?

The ø9.20 mm image circle covers 1/1.8-inch formats, and the model is characterized on the Sony IMX678, the 1/1.8-inch SmartSens SC4210, the 1/2-inch IMX385, and the 1/2.3-inch IMX577. Send your sensor model and pixel size and we confirm field of view and chief ray angle match before you build the holder.

How much distortion should we expect from a 178° fisheye lens?

Distortion is quoted on a θ-g basis: under −4.09% on IMX678, −4.31% on SC4210, −2.32% on IMX385, and −1.31% on IMX577. Fisheye mapping still needs de-warping in the host pipeline, but a controlled baseline keeps calibration and stitching stable across production units.

Does the IP67 rating mean the finished camera module is waterproof?

IP67 is declared for the lens barrel construction against dust ingress and water jets. Final protection depends on your holder, gasket, and focus-locking method, so validate the assembled module against your own ingress test instead of relying on the lens rating alone.

Can we evaluate a sample before design freeze?

Evaluation samples can be arranged through the sales channel for bench testing. Share the sensor model, holder drawing, and target working distance, and we confirm that BFL 4.35 mm, the 5.00 mm rear step, and the diagonal field of view fit your module before tooling or volume planning.

Can the focal length, IR-cut wavelength, or coating be customized?

The 2.96 mm focal length is fixed for this model, so a different EFL requires a new optical design. IR-cut wavelength and coating variants can be reviewed as custom configurations once your sensor, spectral target, and mechanical envelope are defined.

Is the built-in IR650 filter suitable for NIR or night-vision imaging?

No. The filter holds transmission at or below 3% from 700 to 1000 nm and below 5% at 1050 nm, so the lens is configured for visible-light imaging with corrected color. Near-infrared work needs a different filter configuration, handled as a separate custom item.

The JSD2916-J1 is a 2.96 mm M12 (S-Mount) fisheye lens for 8MP camera modules on 1/1.8-inch sensors such as the Sony IMX678 and SmartSens SC4210. Its ø9.20 mm image circle delivers a 178.0° diagonal field of view on IMX678, so one camera covers a full room, aisle, or cabin instead of several narrow-angle modules. Panoramic security, robot and AGV vision, UAV capture, and embedded vision devices use it to cut module count and mounting volume.

The 5G3P stack pairs five glass and three plastic elements with a built-in IR650 filter: average transmission is at least 90% from 440 to 620 nm, 50% at 650 ± 10 nm, and no more than 3% from 700 to 1000 nm, so daylight color is corrected inside the barrel. At F/1.60, relative illumination stays above 54.90%, and θ-g distortion remains under −4.09%, giving de-warping pipelines a controlled starting point.

The barrel is M12.00×P0.50 with TTL 27.50 ± 0.3 mm, ø26.00 mm maximum outer diameter, a 5.00 mm rear step, BFL 4.35 ± 0.2 mm and FBL 3.55 ± 0.2 mm. The IP67 rating covers the assembled barrel against dust and water jets; final ingress protection depends on the holder seal in your module. Chief ray angle stays under 19.17°. Drawings, samples, and custom IR-cut or coating variants can be reviewed against your sensor and housing.
